He was to teach him the business of farming and provide for his food, clothing and lodging. He also to provide for his education: reading, writing, simple arithmetic including the rule of three. When the young man turned 21, David was to give him a new suit of clothes, 3 pounds and 10 shillings. Copied from records found in the Barren County Court House, Kentucky 1996. David Mize and his wife Polly on March 3, 1815 sold 173 acres on the White Oak Creek to brother, James Mize for $500. David Mize on July 27, 1825 bought 10 & 1/4 acres from brother James and wife Martha Mize for the sume of $130. The land was part of the Rhea tract. The land adjoined the land on whince the Mill stood. David bought 1 acre of land on the David Mize mill. David Mize wrote his will on July 8, 1883 in Barren Co., Kentucky. It was witnessed by Joseph Anderson, Johan Galloway, Pleasant Galloway and Abner H. Snow. He left everything to his wife Polly except $1 to Elizabeth Snow and Martha Mize. (They were both married at the time of the will). To each of his other children he left $40 in property when they married. After the death of his wife, all property was to be divided between the children equally.
